MOLLY MURRAH:
I’m a Seattle-based watercolor artist, graphic designer, and passionate teacher. As a Signature Member of the Northwest Watercolor Society, I’ve served two terms as president and continue to be actively involved in the organization.
Artistic Philosophy
My approach to art is all about creative freedom:
â–ª Art is a personal journey
â–ª There are no strict rules in creativity
â–ª Every artist should feel empowered to explore their unique vision
Teaching and Inspiration
While I teach various subjects, painting portraits holds a special place in my heart. I love helping students overcome their fear and discover that portraits are just like all other
subjects: They require good composition, and a variety of values, shapes, and colors.
Artistic Versatility
My background in graphic design enhances my artistic skills, allowing me to bring a unique perspective to my work. Though watercolor remains my first love, I recently began exploring gouache, and I’ve enjoyed the excitement of trying a new medium.
Workshop Promise
In this workshop, we will practice...
â–ª Loosening up our techniques
â–ª Embracing spontaneity in our process
â–ª Letting watercolor’s unpredictability and “magical” qualities inspire our creativity
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Watercolor has been my favorite medium since I was a child. When I started to paint in later years, there was no question watercolor would be my mode of creative expression. My goal for every painting is to create an exciting work imbued with a mood or feeling that captivates the viewer.
